Tags help organize and discover content in Multiforum. Use them effectively to make your content findable.

What are Tags?

Tags are keywords or phrases attached to content:

  • Discussions can have multiple tags
  • Events can have multiple tags
  • Channels can define recommended tags
  • Tags are searchable and filterable

Adding Tags

On Discussions

  1. Create or edit a discussion
  2. Find the Tags field
  3. Type a tag name
  4. Press Enter or select from suggestions
  5. Repeat for additional tags

On Events

  1. Create or edit an event
  2. Find the Tags field
  3. Add relevant tags
  4. Save

Tag Best Practices

Be Specific

Good tags:

  • 3d-printing
  • beginners-guide
  • troubleshooting
  • weekly-meetup

Poor tags:

  • stuff
  • post
  • thing

Be Consistent

  • Use the same tag format across posts
  • Check existing tags before creating new ones
  • Lowercase with hyphens is common

Be Relevant

  • Only add tags that describe your content
  • Don't tag just for visibility
  • Consider what people would search for

Limit Quantity

  • 3-5 tags is usually sufficient
  • Too many tags reduces clarity
  • Focus on the most important categories

Using Tags for Discovery

Filtering by Tag

  1. Look for tag links on content
  2. Click a tag to see all content with that tag
  3. Combine with other filters

Searching Tags

  1. Use the search feature
  2. Include tag names in your query
  3. Filter results by tags

  • Use recommended tags when applicable

Tag Etiquette

Do

  • Use existing tags when possible
  • Create new tags only when needed
  • Tag accurately and honestly
  • Update tags if content changes

Don't

  • Over-tag for visibility
  • Use misleading tags
  • Create duplicate tags with different spellings
  • Tag with unrelated popular terms

Finding Content by Tags

Browse Tags

  1. Look at content in your area of interest
  2. Note which tags are used
  3. Click through to discover more
  • Frequently used tags appear in autocomplete
  • Popular tags help content get discovered
  • But don't use them if they don't apply

Content with similar tags is often related:

  • Explore adjacent tags
  • Discover new communities
  • Find niche topics

Editing Tags

  1. Edit your discussion or event
  2. Remove unwanted tags (click X)
  3. Add new tags
  4. Save

  • Tag changes may be tracked

  • Original tags are preserved in history
