Notifications

Multiforum keeps you informed about activity relevant to you through both in-app and email notifications.

Notification Types​

Comment Notifications​

You're notified when someone:

  • Comments on your discussion
  • Comments on your event
  • Replies to your comment
  • Mentions you (@username) in a comment

Feedback Notifications​

You're notified when:

  • A moderator gives feedback on your content
  • Feedback is updated

Mention Notifications​

You're notified when:

  • Someone @mentions your username
  • Mentions work in discussions and comments

Issue Notifications​

You're notified when:

  • An issue related to your content is created
  • An issue you're subscribed to is updated
  • An issue involving you is closed or reopened

Event Notifications​

You're notified when:

  • An event you're attending is modified
  • An event you created receives comments
  • An event is canceled

Suspension Notifications​

You're notified when:

  • Your action is blocked due to suspension
  • A suspension is applied or removed

Viewing Notifications​

Notification Bell​

  1. Click the bell icon in the navigation
  2. See your recent notifications
  3. Unread notifications show a count badge
  4. Click a notification to navigate to the related content

Notification Center​

  1. Click View All from the notification dropdown
  2. See your complete notification history
  3. Filter by type or read status
  4. Mark notifications as read

Email Notifications​

Notifications can also be sent via email:

What Gets Emailed​

By default, you receive emails for:

  • Replies to your discussions
  • Replies to your events
  • Replies to your comments
  • @mentions
  • Moderator feedback

Email Content​

Each email includes:

  • Who took the action
  • What they did
  • A snippet of the content
  • A direct link to view it

Access via Account Settings → Notifications:

Subscribing to Content​

Auto-Subscribe​

You're automatically subscribed to notifications for content you create:

  • Your discussions
  • Your events
  • Your comments (for replies)

Manual Subscribe​

You can subscribe to others' content:

  1. Navigate to the content
  2. Click Subscribe or the subscribe icon
  3. You'll receive notifications for activity

Unsubscribe​

To stop receiving notifications:

  1. Navigate to the content
  2. Click Unsubscribe
  3. Or use the unsubscribe link in emails

Issue Subscriptions​

Subscribe to Issues​

Stay informed about moderation activity:

  1. Open the issue
  2. Click Subscribe
  3. Receive notifications for:
    • New comments
    • Status changes
    • Actions taken

Auto-Subscribe​

You're automatically subscribed to issues that:

  • You created
  • Relate to your content
  • You're involved in

Managing Notification Volume​

Too Many Notifications?​

Try:

  • Disabling specific notification types
  • Enabling bundling
  • Unsubscribing from busy discussions
  • Adjusting email preferences

Missing Notifications?​

Check:

  • Notification settings are enabled
  • Email isn't going to spam
  • You're subscribed to the content
  • Email provider is configured (server admin)

Notification Privacy​

What Others Can See​

  • Notifications are private to you
  • Others can't see your notifications
  • Your subscription status is private

Data in Notifications​

Notifications contain:

  • Links to content
  • Snippets of text
  • Usernames of actors
  • Timestamps

Best Practices​

Stay Informed, Not Overwhelmed​

  • Enable notifications for important channels
  • Use bundling for busy content
  • Unsubscribe from conversations you're done with

Act on Notifications​

  • Reply to important mentions promptly
  • Address feedback when received
  • Review issue updates affecting you

Regular Maintenance​

  • Clear old notifications periodically
  • Review subscription list
  • Adjust settings as needs change
